ABOUT US

Muswell Hill Chorus is an unauditioned choir providing a home for our local community of singers, taking on challenging choral repertoire in a welcoming, friendly and inclusive environment. We are serious about making music, but also serious about having fun, and creating a community of friends through music.

We sing both traditional and lesser-known classical choral repertoire. We generally perform two concerts each year in local churches. Our Christmas concert includes both choral music and Christmas carols for audience and choir. In the spring we generally perform a major choral piece. During the summer term we organise all-day workshops focusing on different aspects of choral singing.

We rehearse during term-time on Saturday mornings at the United Reform Church in Muswell Hill. Rehearsals run from 10.30am to 1pm with a very important break for tea/coffee and cake. Once a term we usually hold an all-day rehearsal. We encourage each section of the choir to organise home-based sectionals during the week – these are a chance to practise your part, and of course get to know your fellow singers in a social setting.

Weekly rehearsals for autumn term 2024 start on September 14th. Subscriptions are currently £75 per term.

Our musical director

Marvin Perrott studied Early Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has extensive experience both as a singer and conductor. He has performed in numerous roles both in the United Kingdom and abroad. Equally at home in the concert hall Marvin has performed as a soloist in the Messiah, Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers and Bach’s H-moll Messe at the Aldeburgh Music Festival. In 2004 Marvin formed the Clemens non Papa Consort, a group whose aim is to perform lesser known works of the Baroque, Renaissance and Classical periods to a high artistic standard. Marvin was previously Musical Director of Fortismere Community Choir for eight years, and is guest conductor for the Lavenham Singers. As a Musical Director, he seeks to develop the choir's vocal technique and take on ever more ambitious repertoire - performances have included Haydn's The Seasons, Beethoven's Missa solemnis, and Requiems by Mozart, Fauré and Duruflé.

Our répétiteur

John Eady studied music at King's College London, the Royal Academy of Music and cello at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2002 he started to learn the organ at the St Giles International Organ School and in 2006 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. He is a freelance cellist and organist, manages his string quartet named Four Strings Attached, and has been organist at St Magnus the Martyr, London Bridge since 2008. He has taught music for over two decades in a wide variety of schools and additional work includes composition, arranging and conducting.
